This year, I haven't really thought of a good wish list. I have been trying to avoid certain things that I think are frivolous and extraneous, like that cowl scarf from Topshop or the wide neck sweater with the lurex threads. And I will not go into my winter running clothes needs now or that gorgeous and dainty bracelet that I covet at the 59 street Columbus Circle Holiday Market. Or the perfume that I am using samples of because it smells like heaven.

But I digress....

This year, I am re- evaluating and my wish list (yes, I said wish list, so it does not in any way in fact need to be small affordable items. :P This is strictly my wishy wish list). I am in the process of illustrating a book I am trying to get published. Well, two in fact. So this list is more about the new needs I have to get that job done more effectively and up to date.

According to my new buddy at AppleCare, before I update my mac to snow leopard (my cloud won't sync all my devices until I do), I need to back everything up. These are my recommended hardware suggestions. They are at the top of my list!

The LaCie 1TB Rugged All-Terrain Hard Drive for my graphics files on the go, and the Porsche Design 1TB P'9221 Mobile Drive to act as my backup and time capsule at home.

Next, we have the Wacom Bamboo Capture Graphic Tablet. I am drawing in illustrator and painting in photoshop right now with my index finger on the track pad of my mac book pro, hardly an accurate or elegant way to achieve the delicate lines and designs I am aiming for.

And a good digital camera over 10 mp. This is crucial so that the images I am playing with digitally are large enough to manipulate. This I will have to feel out a bit. It needs to be something that I can handle well, I have really small hands and some cameras are too bulky for me to hold properly.

I am adding to this wish list an ipad2 (although I may just hold out for the 3. I saw some images floating around the blogs lately and that thing just looks sick! no, nevermind, I will definitely hold out!)
So in the meantime, I would like a kindle fire I think. A small and really lightweight paperbook size tablet to read books on and shove in my purse for commuting around town.

There, that was not so bad after all.

... but can someone please explain to me the allure of crab cakes? If you have eaten with me at all in the last 20 years you know that I am pretty much averse to the ever ubiquitous crab cake. It seems there is not a restaurant anywhere anymore that does not espouse to have the best crab cakes in the world. And they serve them right there!!! (Amazing!)

"Excuse me Miss, I haven't eaten here, what would you recommend on this menu?"

"Ohhhh, our crab cakes are to die for!"

Really. Really??? I am so very, very sure. Maybe there is such a thing as an amazing crab cake. To me, I can't get excited about crabs, some sort of bread crumb, maybe some old bay seasoning and egg binding shaped into a patty and fried up. I find crab cakes, ehhhhh, boring.

Feel free to change my mind. I dare you.

And I've been a very, very good girl. And, it's been a very, very long and cold winter. And I haven't *gasp* bought any item of clothing in six months (a personal record for me) save for that much needed down coat and pair of snowboots that became my uniform for the last 4 months... And well, did I mention it's SPRING??? Ahhhh, on my walk last week I saw crocus and buds on the trees. I switched my heavy winter clothes for my spring skirts and dresses and blouses that were hiding in a storage POD since my move last summer. And all I want is a new pair of sandals to run around in and feel pretty and girly in. I think that's fair. Thankfully, there are so many great ones this year to choose from... where's a gal to start?

And I mean really cold. Like biting, icy uncomfortable unless you're dressed for it cold. And I just happen to be the clever girl whose entire arsenal of cold weather clothing armor is being conveniently stored in a POD in Houston right now. Yep. very very very clever. I have survived endless winters in NYC, Stockholm and a bitter New Years Eve in Montreal. So, I have the goods... just eh, not in arms reach. Just a few things I have seen this week that I really think I must have to survive. No really. It's a little cold out here... snow on the ground (we have already reached our high of 25 degrees today and it's pretty much downhill from here), and I don't wanna hibernate, so here's my list of warm and cozies that will make getting out there a little easier.Adidas VP Supernova brushed running tights

I'm getting very tired of the treadmill and I'm itching to run outside again, but those Nike Tempo shorts I have with me are just not making the grade. I did try, but red, chapped thighs have sadly gone out of style this season.

I realized for a good part of this morning I had no idea what day of the week it was. I had no idea what the temperature outside was (ok, I checked on that. Answer: very freaking cold. More on that next post.), no idea what to do, no idea where to go, no idea who I could talk to or meet up for a cup of coffee... or lunch, or dinner, or a drink later, or anything.

See, moving can be great. Moving far away can be refreshing... but it comes with some serious side effects I hadn't taken into consideration earlier. I'm happy I'm where I am, but I miss my friends so much. I miss having people to see regularly who I don't have to explain myself to every time, who I can meet up with and sometimes not say a word, because they know me so well. Friends who would drop everything because I could really really really use a hug. I miss my friends who understand how much a new supermarket can lift my spirits and who will go for a run with me no matter what the weather because I could use someone to hear me vent and rant and rave (hey Canada... I mean you girl) at the universe and then have frozen yogurt with me for dinner. I miss my Dad, I'm not even sure if that will ever be fixed.

I'm on a very strict budget right now since I'm going back to school and I miss some things I used to get to do a lot, like shopping... at Barneys, and buying out of season exotic fruit (ok fine, judge me, but I don't drive and I use my own bottle for water, I take my own bags to the grocery store and my living quarters are ridiculously small... my carbon footprint is relatively tiny and demure!!). I can't even think of buying a bag of candy I want or the diet rockstar or the wonderful japanese pastries at Minamoto Kitchoan (where they wrap everything for you like you are eating princess food). It's not that I feel sorry for myself. Far from it infact mainly I am excited and happy. But at the same time, I just feel unsettled, scared and confused and (a lot) lonely. Big changes are hard.

So, before I cancel netflix as my last ditch money saving device, I am renting all of my new favorite tv show obsession How I Met Your Mother. I can't stop watching it and wanting that life. I wish I had my friends around me to meet up for an impromptu problem solving dink after work (ha! I would like that too.... work), and my boyfriend closer. Little things. They take so much time to get right.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, (I hope my friends in retail are not working today) and all my friends who have become my extended family while I was away, scattered around the world know how much I miss them and I am thinking about them. This Thanksgiving is the first one I am spending back at home in NYC in 7 years. I could not be happier. I've been up all morning cooking and baking. And in a few hours I get to watch the Macy's parade on TV, knowing that my saffron-honey root vegetables with thyme and my two rustic apple galettes are done and packed and ready to go to my cousins house in Westchester.

I'm especially thankful this year to my Mom. I love you tremendously. And I'm so glad we finally get to spend the holidays together.

I miss you Lisa and S.C., Michel I hope you are making something wonderfully yummy that I will get to see on facebook... Andi, I am sooo sorry I missed your birthday this week... alles Gute zum Geburtstag!!!

And yes, I am the girl who cries at everything, including commercials, happy moments, sad moments, times of stress, when I'm tired, when you're tired, when everything is wrong, when nothing is wrong... but it was a really moving episode, and... I miss my Daddy.

I'm still struggling with the concept of home. It used to have such completely different connotations to me even just two months ago than it does now. But, as my life has basically turned on it's side since October, I have had to re-evaluate my definition. I thought my home was my apartment (my nest), filled with things I felt I needed to make me happy. It contained my two adorable fuzzy cats, my "things" and my art studio. I kept nesting and bringing my "things" into my home to make it homier. It felt like home, I guess. But we were alone there. Whenever I talked about going home to my friends I meant NYC, my parents home... my hometown. I guess that's different than a home, but equally valuable, since it's also filled with things I feel I need, as well as people I love.

Since living slightly nomadic the past month and a half, I have realized how few "things" I truly need and want. I have stopped buying stuff (well, at first it was an economic reason, but now I don't crave anything really).

I don't know where home is anymore, or what it is... Maybe home is a feeling more than a place, maybe it's a person. Maybe it's wherever you make it...Maybe it's with you. Maybe it's just you.

Right now I am sleeping on an air mattress bed in my Mom's living room contemplating my next big thing. It can be stressful, and frustrating, to move back home for a hiccup in time with your Parent... for both of you... but it can be rewarding as well. I am getting to know and appreciate my Mom on a whole new level. We are two adult women who are both used to living our own lives alone and are now sharing pretty much everything in tight quarters. I never had a roommate and I never thought my first one would be my own Mom, but after a rocky start, it's been a very cool learning experience that I will always remember. Today we are going to take our second Bikram Yoga class together!

I am not getting too comfy though... I love my time with my mom, but I am ready to move foward, I'm applying to schools for January semester starts, and daydreaming of filling my new (non-existant haha) flat with fun brand new-start type of items. A new colorful rug and a great graphic shower curtain.

******************AHHHHHHHHHH..... SIGH! A girl can dream! (PS... don't even get me started on the desk/studio combo I have worked out as well... ooooh heaven)

I just wanted to thank my Mom especially, but also my family and SC for being so supportive and helpful. Also, thanks Marcello for a great weekend! Oooh, yes, and is there anyone in the NYC area who wouldn't mind cat-sitting my adorable babies for a few months? My Mom has 2 cats already and so can't take them. They are very sweet indoor long haired adult housecats. One is declawed. All shots are up to date.

Yesssss, I know I'm early this year... And I know this list looks smaller than I normally go with... And yes, I could verrrrry (very very very very) easily load it up with boots and bags and things that I covet with heavy sighs and ooohs and ahhhhs.

But I am re-evaluating this year, and I don't (ouch it hurts a little) need those things really. And paring down my life feels quite good actually.

But I think I may seriously need the following two items: (with some minor add-ons) the new mac book pro as I am currently without a working computer, and I would very much like to upgrade to the iphone 4. Since my laptop is busted and unfixable, I haven't been able to update my old iphone 3g in almost a year (sad) and I can't access my disc drive so no burning discs or playing them or uploading anything... you get the picture. It is truly as my boyfriend says an oversized and expensive paperweight at it's best.

Also, I would like to get my masters in graphics through an online course starting next semester and I think that the computer (yeah, ummm did I mention the need for CS5 as well???? ummm hehhehehehehe) is imperative.

That, and I would very much like someone to sit in the car with me while I practice my skillz. I think they may come in handy some point in the near future.

....Last days of work!!! Yes, it is officially my last day at work. I can't believe it is finally here. I am a bit numb still because I've been on a constant go go go schedule with work and packing and well, ummm more work. Like, crazy work. Anyway, I am pretty sure it will all hit me after I say goodbye to everyone and I have a moment to breathe, and fall apart a little in private. As for now, I think I'm keeping it together fairly well. And now... back to work. See you soon NYC. You have been missed. (and of course, S.C.L.A. you are very much in my mind)...

... but I gotta go. We all knew we'd have to part sometime. And I'll make it easier on ya and rip me away like a band aid. You have me until October 4. Then I'm off. I know.. that's not a lot of time left. But really, I mean, I never fit in here anyway. I refused to drive, I hate ice houses and BBQ, I don't eat steak or know the correct fingers to hold up to make the longhorns sign. I've never said "y'all". I curse like a sailor. I don't like grits, no matter what you put into them to make them amazing. I don't know anything outside the loop here. I love public transportation and cold. I wear scarves, a lot, and sometimes in multiples.

But I really love everyone I've met here and I hope we can all keep in touch.

Soooo, I will be packing up the truck next weekend. Who wants to help me? And better yet, who has a dolly or hand truck, I'm pretty sure that they will come in handy. (especially since I have ummmm a lot of books?!) I can provide my witty, charming self as company and drinks and food as rewards! Hey, it's such a great deal... who in their right mind would pass on that?

Ok all you webMD experts out there... I need a diagnosis!! Stat! My elbow hurts. No wiseasses, not my funny bone. And, no, I am not laughing. I noticed at least a month ago that when I leaned on my left elbow it really hurt like it was badly bruised. Well, I checked and I didn't see a bruise. It has gotten progressively worse and now it hurts if anything brushes up against my elbow, or I straighten it out completely. Like the skin is too tight, but more like a really bad bruise.

So doc, what is the deal? I don't like to hurt.

And no, "doc it hurts when I do this" "then don't do that" is not the solution anymore!! :P

... especially ones that start out feeling so nice. Today I ate the first apple all year that tasted like autumn. I can't explain precisely but it was just the perfect crispness and flavor. It didn't taste all watery and bland. It was... simply perfection and it made my morning. Plus I am wearing a blazer today. In Houston in September! And last night I got the most perfect pre-birthday gift. I am just a very lucky girl I guess. Ahhhhhhhh sigh.

Thanks everyone for making my stressful and crazy moment easier and calmer. I really do appreciate everything even if I haven't said so.

I'm working on a new line of pillows (!!!) to compliment the chairs I finished this year. I'm working on a great background of a super soft linen flecked with gold. There is also one in silver. The exposed zipper on the back will be in the contrast color that the pillow is painted and illustrated in. All are being hand done, so they will all be unique. Of course, this is a sucky scan. One day I will invest in an amazing scanner/ new computer that works... but for now, you will just have to trust me ;)

My new Chase app on my iphone! WOW.... Okay, for some of you with cars (okay, most of you out there) you don't know how freaking annoying it is for me to get to the bank. I only go when I have to deposit checks. I rarely carry cash on me anyway, so I can just use any ATM if I really really need it. (which I hardly ever ever do). But I am in Houston and it's hot hot hot. And everything is so spread out that a trip to the bank has to be a pre planned half my day kind of adventure. Of course, it's one I begrudgingly do, since, even I need money in the bank hehehe.

Now, with my new handy dandy app, I can just take a pic of the check I want to deposit, from my bed if I want! (in my A/C!!!) And that's as easy as it gets. Poof! It's deposited. Brilliant!

Like I say. LOve it!

now, for all of you lucky bastards with a three day weekend coming up... GRRRRR!!! I work retail so..... ugh!!
